Caring For Our Territory

Community Work

Providing practical, community-led, and culturally-grounded support for families in Kenhtè:ke.

Food & Comfort

Food, Comfort & Community Support

We believe in the strength of community care and mutual support. When families face loss or bereavement, TNWA helps coordinate comfort catering and kitchen assistance for funeral luncheons, when volunteers and resources are available. We also organize seasonal food-related gatherings to share traditional preparation teachings and harvest meals.

Initiatives Include:

  • Funeral luncheon comfort catering (subject to volunteer capacity)
  • Gatherings centered around seasonal food harvesting and teachings
  • Connecting families with local safety and community care resources
Uplifting Youth

Youth & Student Encouragement

Uplifting the next generation is at the heart of our community vision. Through funds raised from our local sales and community donations, TNWA provides annual graduation awards and monetary encouragement to local elementary and secondary students. We also host youth crafting and learning spaces when available.

Initiatives Include:

  • Annual graduation awards for local elementary/secondary students
  • Crafting, coding, or skill circles tailored to local youth
  • Positive intergenerational circles connecting youth with Elders
Preserving Culture

Cultural Skills & Teachings

Revitalizing Haudenosaunee values and sharing practical Mohawk traditions are core focus areas. We organize seasonal beading workshops, leather sewing circles, and traditional food preservation classes. These circles welcome all skill levels and foster a cooperative environment to keep traditional skills alive.

Initiatives Include:

  • Beading and sewing circles led by local craftspeople
  • Traditional food preparation, seed saving, and gardening classes
  • Support for beginner-level conversational Kanyen'kéha (Mohawk language)
Community Circles

Fundraising & Community Events

We host and participate in local fundraisers, craft shows, and food sales to support our student awards and community initiatives. TNWA also participates in local awareness walks, such as the annual Every Child Matters walk, fostering solidarity, learning, and mutual support in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

Initiatives Include:

  • Local craft sales, food stands, and bake fundraisers
  • Annual Every Child Matters and Orange Shirt Day walks
  • Community awareness gatherings for family safety and support
